Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy

I was able to attend the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy this past week. In compliance with the Diocesan Safety Consortium, all schools must have a Certified School Safety Specialist on staff. The sessions I attended included information on de-escalation strategies, digital threat assessments, a keynote who has taught at a school that had a shooting, progressive safety initiatives, and low-cost, no-cost safety strategies. Information gathered from this and other training throughout the year is shared and taught to teachers, practiced and communicated to parents, and aids us in maintaining a safe and secure campus. The researched number one safe school strategy is that our staff connects with kids in a professional way and relays the message to the students that we are there for them every single day. We have an expectation of parents and students to support our safety strategies and efforts in areas of fires, intruders, natural weather disasters, and more. The next opportunity for this support is in our school-wide reunification drill, taking place on September 14th, with a mandatory 2 PM pick up for all students. If you are interested in aiding the school in our efforts to provide a safe and secure campus, please contact Principal Diller. vanessadiller@stlouisacademy.org

“Warmth is the vital element… for the soul of a child”

Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and founder of analytical psychology said, “One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much raw necessary material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of a child.” At St. Louis Academy we know this. We live this! Our staff works to create lasting relationships with kids and parents. As we complete the first month of school, I want to thank you for joining St. Louis Academy in our mission to help all students reach their full potential academically, socially, and spiritually. You are your child’s most important teacher and we are thrilled to work with you as an extension of your home teachings and expectations!

Mass Throughout the Week

We attend daily mass Tuesday through Friday at 8 AM. Please join us if you are able. If you cannot attend mass with us please pray for us. Thank you!

EPIC

Great news in the Kingdom: September 8th is Our Lady's birthday! Come celebrate Mama Mary with your brothers and sisters in Christ at youth group on September 9th from 5-6:30 in the school cafeteria. We won't be meeting together as a youth group again until October, but you are all invited to come to the Fall Fest on September 30th. It helps to support youth ministry, so it would be great to have a group of us there as a witness to the joy and strength of the young Church.
In other news, I got a new email address so if you want to contact me you can reach me at youthministry@stlouisb.org.
As always I ask that you would pray for us, and know that we are praying for you all too!

Yours in Christ, Claire Stuerzenberger

Parking Lot

IF YOU ARE COMING TO MASS IN THE AM:

Please park in the back of the school. I understand it is further to walk if you have little ones but the degree of safety is our reasoning behind this request. Please park and walk to the church from the school parking lot.

If you need to come into the building either in the morning or at pick-up time, either to walk your children in or out of school, or to speak to a teacher, please park in the BACK of the school when you enter. Parking in the front creates hazardous blind spots when vehicles exit school grounds. If you are bringing in or picking up a student during the school day and park in the front, please back into the parking spot.

Vehicles entering the parking lot at any time are to stay to the left (west side), and when exiting the parking lot please stay to the east side next to the marquis.

Communication

Please make sure you are signed up for the Remind Message System. Text the number 81010, with the message @slaparents to sign up. As a reminder, please communicate with your child’s teacher when important changes or events happen. Such events include but are not limited to medication information, health information, environmental changes, family emergencies or traumatic events, or classroom questions or concerns. Teachers work with your child all day and it is important to notify them of such things. Please be sure you have a copy of the Staff Contact information.
