Building for the Next Generation Capital Campaign for Parish Hall Expansion

The parish Capital Campaign Committee has been working diligently to present the parish plans to faithfully build for the next generation. Following all this weekend’s masses, Darrel Dodane, the Campaign Chairperson, and I will be speaking to the parish and asking all families to prayerfully discern a contribution to this endeavor. The overall project goal amount is $1.75 million. We are pleased that between parish savings, contributions, and endowments, we already have $1 million! We are asking the parish and school families to work together for a combined contribution of $750,000. This is a big undertaking! With this expansion, the parish will benefit with storage space for parish functions, the addition of a handicap bathroom, and parish hall updates including a new roof, an updated kitchen, a revised façade, and the addition of a social commons and multipurpose room. The school will benefit from the addition of extra classrooms for music, preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade, a staff lounge that can serve as a student activity room and hold after-school extracurricular activities, and the social commons room will hold our After School program following the school day and lunchroom during school. Over the last ten years, we have increased enrollment by 275%, and we are roughly 20 students away from our enrollment cap. Please help us to prepare for the 100 children, ages five and under, that will one day benefit from this project, and please pray we reach our goal!

Indiana School Accountability Grade

Thursday of this week, the annual Indiana School Accountability Grades were released to administrators. The Indiana Department of Education uses the previous year’s ISTEP results to determine what letter grade the schools earn: A,B,C,D or F. The state uses an algorithm based on student performance, particularly focusing on individual student growth from one year to the next, to determine this grade. Currently there is a replacement test being created, which will be called ILEARN, to replace ISTEP. Last year, based on the results of the student’s ISTEP scores, St. Louis Academy received a D grade. We are proud to say that after a lot of hard work from the teachers, staff, and students, we improved from a D grade to a B! Please pray for the students, teachers, and staff as they work to learn and grow each day, and fulfill SLA’s mission.

 

WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR A SUCCESSFUL FALL FEST!

The Wagon Auction is taking place of the traditional "classroom basket" to better fit the FALL FEST theme and lighten the load for all involved! We will have 3 wagons to auction from each classroom.

Here is the breakdown:

Grades PK – 2 Family Theme 

(Movie tickets, restaurant gift cards, park passes, family games, family movies, long fire pit forks, masses, a Catholic bible, a rosary, Christmas, music, game tickets, outdoor family games — anything a family would like)

Grades 3-5 Female Theme 

(Movie tickets, restaurant gift cards, coffee shop cards, a Catholic bible, a rosary, jewelry, candles, clothing stores, bags, purses, music, game tickets, spa, pedicure, lotions, coffee mugs, and home decor — anything a female would like)

Grades 6-7 Male Theme 

(Grilling items, hunting items, a Catholic bible, a rosary, cologne, various hats, movie tickets, manicure test, tools, peanuts, jerky, golfing, sports items, automotive items, car washing, game tickets, gift certificates from sporting good stores — anything a man would like)

Please turn in all items by September 22nd to school office.

TABLE SERVICE NEEDS

We are collecting $5 donations to provide table services. Please drop off at school or the parish office no later than September 27th.

SET UP  

Pk-3 grade families — Friday after School 3 - 7pm

Set up will take place on Friday after school.  Parents with kids in grades pk-3 are asked to help on Friday.

CLEAN UP

4-8 grade families — Sunday 11am - 130pm

Tear down will take place on Sunday after 10 am mass. We appreciate all your help for this event!!

CONTEST TIME!!

We have a contest connected with our ‘You Can Lend a Hand Burger King Fundraiser’ that will take place in January 2018. See the attached flyer in the Email Blast this week.

STUDENT SERVICE HOURS

Please see attached to the Email Blast a letter from Samantha Schortgen with service hours information. She is looking for babysitters to watch children while their young adult group meets on the parish campus. There is more information in the letter, including the dates of meetings when babysitters are needed. This is a great opportunity for our junior high students to get some service hours!

Communications and Marketing Fundraiser

Beginning Monday is the Pizza and Cookie Dough Fundraiser. The fundraiser will last for the week. More information in the form of a family packet will be sent home tomorrow from the committee. Please contact Anna Gurney or Annemarie Deville with questions.
