From the Principal

This year the teachers and staff are looking forward to setting free the gifts that God has instilled in them and your children! Teachers have been using time this summer to read, learn, and develop skills that they will use throughout the school year to help fulfill their part in our united mission of helping all students reach their full potential academically, socially and spiritually. We look forward to welcoming them back in a few weeks.

This EMAIL BLAST is to notify you of a few things, to repeat a few things, and to remind you of a few things. I will be joyfully celebrating a week of vacation with my family next week so I wanted to make sure the bases were covered before I left. Office hours will resume Tuesday, August 1, from 8:00-3:00. All summer packets were sent out last month. If you did not receive your packet, or if you have a question regarding something that was included or missing, please email me.

Handbooks

Please see our website for complete Parent Handbooks, and Child Care Handbooks. There have been some changes, particularly in the Child Care Handbook. Complete copies are also attached to this email.

Athletics

We are currently working towards finalizing our St. Louis Academy Crusader Athletic Handbook. Some of the Athletic Board members attended the SportsLeader training at Bishop Luers High School last week. We look forward to adopting this program to help our coaches use athletics to evangelize our children. To learn more about the program, visit their website HERE.

As we are quickly approaching the onset of fall sports, I ask EVERYONE with students in grades 3-8 to please take 2 minutes to complete the short survey regarding students interested in playing on various sports teams, as well as adults interested in coaching for our various teams. This will be the beginning of something that has not happened at St. Louis Academy for some time. We are excited to begin this incredible ministry through SLA sports!

SCRIP Updates

I have received all the information from Michelle Cattleman regarding our SCRIP credits, as well as numbers from St. John’s. An updated Education Cost Statement will be sent to you via email with your adjusted amount. If you do not receive one or have questions regarding your revised statement please email me.

Those families who receive a full Choice Scholarship can still help our school by purchasing SCRIP. More SCRIP information to come at Back to School Night!

Tuition Payment Plans

As stated in the June 30 email with your Education Cost Statement, you are requested to do the following:

1)   If you have a balance in the “Total Tuition Due” section, determine the best way for your family to pay this balance. Your options include:

  1. Paying the amount in full no later than August 11.
  2. Making two equal payments, one by August 11, and one by January 12. If you choose this option notify Mrs. Diller so she can create a contract for this request.

I have heard from a couple families who are choosing this option.

  1.     Dividing the total due into 10 monthly payments to be paid between August and May. If you choose this option, go to https://factsmgt.com/parent -resources/payment-plans/and create a payment plan through the FACTS Payments program. After you create your account, I will create an agreement through FACTS for 10 equal payments towards the tuition amount due as listed on your Education Cost Statement. All monthly payment plans must be completed through the FACTS Payment Management program.

If you are having trouble setting up your account through FACTS, please contact FACTS customer service.

If you have a family tuition amount due, please determine which of the above options you will choose no later than August 4, and

PLEASE LET ME KNOW

so I know how to proceed.

New Family Connections

We are excited to welcome 14 new families to our St. Louis Academy family! Our Home and School Hospitality Committee is already contacting new families and welcoming them to our school. Thank you if you have extended a greeting to a new face and family in church this summer! We look forward to introducing the new families to you at the summer Back to School Social! See the attached flyer for more information on the events of this fun day.

We are Online and on Your Phone!

Thank you to Matt Truty and Anna Gurney for spending lots of hours developing a more user-friendly website for our school! We plan for our website to hold up-to-date information for our current families, including handbooks, forms, and newsletters, as well as links to PowerSchool, Canvas, and other learning platforms. It also holds information so we can use it as a marketing tool for potential families. Check it out on your computer or mobile device at www.stlouisacademy.org.

Stephanie Galentine has been helping keep our Facebook page updated. Find us at @SLACrusaders. Recently, parents were posting where to find school uniform deals!  Throughout the year we will be posting events, success stories, and posting photos of the teachers and students in action. Remember, if you DO NOT want your child’s photo published, remember to sign and return the Social Media Opt-Out form, sent in the Summer Packet and found at the end of the Parent Handbook. Forms must be turned in as soon as possible.

We will have a Communications Team to help with providing information to families. They will also be developing procedures for the various communication avenues we have for SLA including Facebook, our website, Remind texts, Email Blasts, the bulletin inserts, and teacher newsletters. If you have specific input regarding these communication avenues please let me know. Our goal is to provide families with current, clear, and consistent information, in ways that are most suitable for the needs of our families.

Upcoming Dates and What to Do About Them ????

*August 2, After Mass, SLA Volunteer Day

-Parents and students are invited to partake in some small jobs that need done around campus as we prepare to begin the school year! Luckily we do not have as much that needs done as we did last summer but remember, many hands make light the work! Teachers will be available to help give direction and to sign verification forms of service hours for students. This also counts for 1 volunteer events for families. Each family must volunteer in at least 4 events throughout the school year as a family volunteer requirement. Family names present at this volunteer day will be submitted to our Home and School Association. Other volunteer opportunities will be discussed at Back to School Night.

*August 6, 1PM-4PM, Back to School Social

-Bring your children’s supplies and drop off at the classrooms between 1 and 2PM. Bring any documents that you’ve been asked to bring in to complete your child’s file, along with any Opt-Out forms from the Parent Handbook, and the Parent Handbook Verification of Receipt Form, and give them to Mrs. K, the Administrative Assistant, prior to receiving tickets for snow cones. You will also be asked to confirm your contact information.

*August 11, 7:50-3:00, 1st Day of School

-Follow the drop-off procedures as outlined in the Parent Handbook and found on the website. Please feel free to join us for our 1st All-School Mass at 8AM!

*August 24, after mass, Picture Day

-Students may Dress Up (see guidelines in Parent Handbook), a school uniform may be sent in for the child to change into following their class pictures. Picture order forms (going home after school begins) need to be sent in on picture day.

As I end this email, I want to leave you with a prayer for the final weeks of summer,

Creator God,

who breathed this world into being who is discernible within the harmony of nature, the perfection of a butterfly’s wing, the grandeur of a mountain range, and the soaring eagle and humming bird, thank you for this world which you have created.

Thank you for summer sun which reminds us that your creative breath is still alive and active. Thank you for the warmth of your love sustaining this world, Your garden. Amen

-John Birch
